Who We Are

Corby Nightlight is a registered charity, which was set up to prevent and/or relieve poverty among rough sleepers and other homeless adults in Corby and surrounding areas by providing a night shelter and other support services, promoting social inclusion, raising awareness of homelessness in the area, and working together with other agencies to reduce homelessness and rough sleeping, treat addiction and/or mental health issues, and to enable people to gain independent living skills, and move on to stable accommodation.

The charity is governed by a board of trustees:

Nicola Pell - Chairperson/Coordinator
Kate Plunkett - Secretary
Steve Gittens - Fundraising Officer
David Balcon - Training Lead
Zoe Currall - Designated Person - Vulnerable Adults
Paddy Ridge - Trustee

Interested in Helping?

Our new centre will be opening on 1 November 2017 and will be a year round 24/7 hub for homeless people and rough sleepers. Would you like to help us end the need for people to sleep rough?

Our volunteers are essential to us providing this vital service in Corby. We're looking for ordinary people who are:

Would you like to help us end the need for people to sleep rough? Our winter night shelter opens on 27 October 2017 and we're still looking for night shift volunteers (11pm-8am). We ask for a minimum commitment of one shift a month.

We aim to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere for everyone. We want to challenge all forms of oppression including those based on race, ethnicity, nationality, creed, gender, sex, class, sexuality, gender reassignment, learning ability, physical impairment, mental illness, HIV status, age, occupation, income, wealth and unrelated criminal conviction.

We are always looking for volunteers to join our team and work with our guests - serving food, offering hope & encouragement, playing board games, supporting leisure activities and much more. We'd also love to hear from you if you'd like to visit the centre and offer a service - we would welcome regular visits from hairdressers, barbers, counsellors, therapists etc.

Volunteering provides many opportunities to learn new skills, meet new people, grow in confidence, and most importantly make a difference to people trying to rebuild their lives. We pay all reasonable travel expenses.

Our recruitment process:

Email us to request an application form.

We hold regular training sessions, which are held at the Best Western Rockingham Forest hotel. Please see our events section for upcoming dates.

If you would like to proceed with your application we'll take up your references and request a DBS check (Please note - A previous misdemeanour won't necessarily mean that you can't volunteer with us so please contact us if you wish to discuss this further).

Once all this is successfully completed we'll invite you to a training session and to do a 'no obligation' trial shift.

We hold training events once a quarter so you are never far from being able to join us. If you'd like to know more or you have any specific questions please drop us an email at

Training Dates: TBC

If you'd like to support us but don't feel able to work in the centre we're also looking for people to join our food rota, become a fundraiser or you could collect tinned food or toiletries for our guests to use at the shelter. Please contact us for further information.
